Wineries:
Tomić winery, Jelsa
Founder and our host at Bastijana winery is Mr. Andro Tomić, a man who has devoted all his life to wine. He was born at the island of Hvar and after 20 years of training at the institutes and colleges around the world he decided to return to Hvar and continue the family tradition of wine making over 150 years old. Tomić winery produces around 130 000- 150 000 bottles per year, on about 10 hectares of his own vineyards. Apart of Plavac mali and Prošek they make Beleca white wine and Opolo rose. Wine cellar " Triklinij",which is filled with barrels of barrique and carved in stone just like in Diocletian's basements, is really something that will leave you breathless and make you come back again!
Duboković winery, Jelsa
Our host at Duboković winery is Mr. Ivo Duboković - owner one of the best Croatian plavac mali barique "Medvid". He only produces 15 000 - 20 000 bottles per year and therefore his wines are extremely demanding. Duboković wine cellar is situated in traditional Dalmatian "konoba" in Jelsa which is over 70 years old. One of his co-operative vineyards is located at an altitude of 530 m near the Hvar's St. Nicolas peak and is over 90 years old (autochthonous wine variety called "Darnekuša").Apart from wines you can also taste a wide variety of aromatized olive oils. Mr. Ivo Duboković is a man who is not afraid to experiment with wines and olive oil, which makes him so special. As a result, his wines can be found at desks of top restaurants in Croatia, Switzerland, Germany and recently even in France. This modest but admired winery will amaze you and the flavour of aromatized olive oils will follow you throughout your vacation!
Plenković winery, Sveta Nedjelja
Mr. Zlatan Plenković has succeeded to become one of the best selling winemakers, which wasn’t an overnight process. The jewel in the crown of his path is Croatian wine knight title he had earned in 2009. He was the creator of the first Gran Cru in Croatia and his Pošip has won the prestigious Decanter Best Regional White Wine. The family winery is located on the south side of the Island of Hvar, in Sveta Nedjelja, where he possesses 10 ha of vineyards, but they own vineyards near Šibenik and Makarska as well. Some wines age in a unique cellar, which is located 70 meters under the ground at a permanent temperature of 11 - 12 °C. Altogether, the winery annually produces about 900 000 bottles. Often, the mere visit to Sveta Nedjelja is an unforgettable experience, and the wine tasting of the top wines is just a big bonus!
Carić winery, Vrboska
Carić vinery is located in Vrboska, a small picturesque town most commonly called “Little Venice”. Carić family has been involved with vineyards for as long as they can remember. Apart from purchasing a small amount of grapes from local growers, they have 5 ha of their own vineyards in a number of different wine growing areas (between Jelsa and Stari Grad and on the south side of Hvar). They produce autochthonous sorts such as plavac mali, bogdanjuša, kuč, maraština darnekuša and pošip. Each wine has its own story and you will definitely enjoy listening to it!
